We are looking for Family Physicians (CCFP required) with outstanding verbal and non-verbal communication skills. They need to be able to actively listen and convey empathy. They must be able to inspire confidence and win the trust of patients and families. They must also work well within the team environment, respecting the rights and dignity of each and every patient, family, and coworker. They must also have strong clinical strengths regarding their ability to gather, synthesize, and act upon complex clinical information.
Welcome to Our Program
The 天美传媒’s Enhanced Skills in Addiction Medicine program’s focus is to prepare residents to provide evidence-based and comprehensive addiction medicine care to patients in a variety of settings. Our residents will have a depth and breadth of clinical skill and knowledge that will allow them to address the substance use and behavioural issues of their patients with the same competency they practice in primary care. We provide a flexible and customizable program where residents can provide feedback to tailor their R3 year to meet their future career goals.
Graduates of our program will be well-prepared to identify, assess, diagnose, and treat the full spectrum of substance use disorders. Training encompasses the management of acute intoxication, overdose, and withdrawal in hospital-based settings, as well as the integration of comprehensive primary care with addiction medicine care. Residents will develop the skills necessary to support sustained recovery and gain a better understanding of harm reduction principles.
Residents will work in multidisciplinary teams across inpatient and outpatient settings, providing consultative care in Addiction Medicine. They will also be equipped to manage substance use disorders in the context of co-occurring conditions such as HIV, chronic pain, and mental health disorders. Upon completion, residents will be prepared to apply their expertise in a variety of clinical settings, including outpatient primary care, hospital-based care, and/or rural or remote inpatient environments
In addition to strengthening their addiction medicine expertise within the context of community-based primary care, graduates of our program will be well-positioned to pursue diverse career paths in hospital settings, addiction treatment centres, or detoxification/withdrawal management facilities. Graduates may also serve as a consultation support to colleagues in both hospital and community settings. The Family Physician who successfully completes this program will serve as a local and accessible resource of addiction expertise to their patients, colleagues and community, better able to respond to the needs of the community they serve.

Resident testimonials
"Coming into residency, my goals were to become a socially accountable, comprehensive family physician that worked within an interdisciplinary team to provide care to patients with structural disadvantages. It was at the Boyle McCauley Health Centre that I was supported to provide total patient, relationship-centered care, and develop skills in addictions medicine and trauma-informed care that incorporated the complex biological, psychological and social needs of our patient population. Here I found my people and I look forward to working with them as a colleague after I graduate." - Linda Lam, MD, CCFP
